2024 North Carolina Voting Checklist + Deadlines

  1. Find out if you are registered to vote. Check your status here.

  2. Register if you need to by Friday Oct 11, 2024 through mail or in-person. Update your existing registration if any of your information has changed. North Carolina also offers same day registration and voting from Thu Oct 17, 2024 to Sat Nov 2, 2024. North Carolina did NOT extend the voter registration due to hurricane impacts.

  3. Make sure you have your ID/Voter ID with you. 

  4. The general election date is Tuesday,  November 5, 2024. Put this date on your calendar.

  5. You can also vote early through In-Person absentee voting without excuse  from Thu Oct 17, 2024 to Sat Nov 2, 2024. Put these dates on your calendar. 

  6. Request an absentee ballot if you want to vote-by-mail.

    • Deadline: Oct 29, 2024 

  7. Return your absentee ballot by:

    • Deadline: Tuesday Nov 5, 2024

  8. Find out where your polling place is

  9. Be sure to take note of any accessibility challenges you might face. North Carolina offers curbside voting.

  10. If you need some instructions or want a demonstration of your district’s voting system or accessible equipment, contact your Supervisor of Elections in your county. 

  11. Check out what a sample ballot looks like. If you did not receive one in the mail, most Supervisors of Elections have them posted on their websites.

  12. Arrange any transportation help you might need. Do this in advance, not on the day you need a ride.
