Additional Scoring Context

Although NDSR did not send a questionnaire to the candidates for Atlanta City Council Post 3, we utilized some of the candidate research and interviews completed by Capitol B News and by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC).

Examples of Issues that Impacted Candidates’ Scores

On the issue of Cop City:

  • Devin Barrington Ward, who we scored a B, opposes Cop City, telling Capitol B News “I pledge to halt its progress. Instead, I advocate for a training model grounded in de-escalation and community-centered approaches to public safety.” He also stated to AJC “We have a very reactive public safety system in the city as opposed to one that is proactive. And proactive public safety looks like robust mental health services.”

  • Eshé Collins, who we scored an F, supports Cop City, advocating for continued police training and retention measures.

  • Amber Connor, who we scored an F, supports Cop City, seeking to put additional funds toward Atlanta’s police through regular raises and bonuses.

  • Nicole Evans Jones, who we scored an F, supports Cop City, stating on her campaign website: “Prioritize recruitment and retention of our public safety officers by making sure that pay, training, and even housing supports are the strongest in the region.”

  • Duvwon Robinson, who we scored an F, supports Cop City, saying he believes police should be tougher on crime, that there should be tougher penalties for repeat offenders, and that young residents should have a curfew.
